Five accused sentenced in NDPS case

Representative, Khunti: Five accused have been sentenced in the NDPS case in the Khunti Civil Court. In the first case, in the court of Principal District and Sessions Judge Rasikesh Kumar, in Murhu case number 39/2019, Matan Munda alias Matan Bodra and Tupung Soy, residents of Tirebeda, Adki, have been sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment each and a fine of Rs 50,000. If they fail to pay the fine, they will be sentenced to one year of simple imprisonment. In the said case, the Murhu police arrested the two accused from Sarwada main road on June 25 with one kilo and 600 grams of opium. An FIR was registered against them under Section 18C of NDPS at Murhu police station. Public Prosecutor Ved Prakash argued in the said case. Two accused sentenced to 10 years each: In case number 25/2021 registered at Maranghada police station, the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge II RK Mishra on Thursday sentenced two accused. Holding the accused guilty, the court sentenced Chamra Mahato and Pariba Mahato, residents of Buruhatu, to 10 years imprisonment each. A fine of Rs 1 lakh was also imposed on them. For not paying the fine, both of them were sentenced to additional two years imprisonment. It may be noted that the Maranghada police recovered two kilos and 300 grams of opium from Chamra Mahato’s house and one kilo and 600 grams of opium from Pariba Mahato’s house. Sentenced to five years: In another case under the NDPS Act, the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Sanjay Kumar held the accused guilty and sentenced him. The court has convicted the accused Chambra Munda in case number 27/2021 registered at Adki police station. He has been sentenced to five years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000. For failing to pay the fine, he was sentenced to three more months imprisonment. The police recovered 710 grams of opium from him and sent him to jail.
