New release date
Lionsgate has announced that Flight Risk, a thriller directed by Mel Gibson, will be released on January 24, 2025. The film was initially scheduled to hit theaters on October 18, 2024. Lionsgate decided to push back the release date to avoid competition with other October films, giving Flight Risk a quieter opening weekend in January. The film will now be released alongside the Disney-inspired indie horror comedy Screamboat and the IFC Films thriller Inheritance, starring Phoebe Dynevor and Rhys Ifans.

Plot and cast
Flight Risk stars Mark Wahlberg, Topher Grace, and Michelle Dockery. The film is based on a 2020 Black List screenplay written by Jared Rosenberg. The story follows Wahlberg’s character, a pilot tasked with transporting an air marshal, played by Dockery, and a fugitive, played by Grace, across Alaska. As the flight progresses, tensions rise and secrets are revealed, creating suspense between the trio.

Flight Risk is Mel Gibson’s first film as a director since Hacksaw Ridge in 2016. Hacksaw Ridge was a war drama that received six Oscar nominations, including Best Director and Best Picture.
