Shri Pujari gave this information in the House today after BJD MLA Pratap Kesari Dev raised the issue of lack of commitment on the part of the government regarding compensation after the damage. He said that information about rains in south Odisha had already been received from the Meteorological Department. Due to this rain damage has occurred in Koraput and Malkangiri. There was less damage in Koraput, more damage in Malkangiri. Due to the collapse of the bridge, road connectivity has been disrupted. Six Odraf teams and five fire tender teams have been deployed in Malkangiri district. Director General of Fire Department and senior officers of SAC SST Department along with him reached Malkangiri and are taking stock of the work done by the administration.

1,780 people were taken to the relief center

Minister Suresh Pujari said that after talks with the Union Home Ministry, two platoons of NDRF, BSF and helicopters were kept on standby. Now the water is gradually receding. 1,780 people are at the relief centre. They will be provided with cooked food till they return home. Employees of the Health and Animal Welfare Department are also involved in relief and rescue work. He said that soon after the water recedes, the damage will be assessed and compensation will be given as per the relief code.

BJD MLA raised the issue of flood damage

Earlier, BJD MLA Pratap Kesari Dev said during Zero Hour that there has been extensive damage due to rain in south Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada. Several crops, including maize, have been damaged. He asked if the SRC, state revenue and agriculture departments have taken action. Is the government aware of the loss to the common people? He said that 72 hours have passed and the government has not done anything. No formal announcement has been made on compensation in this regard. He sought responses from the department minister in this regard.

State government aims to build 200 cowsheds in state: Minister

This was announced by Fisheries and Animal Resources Minister Gokula Nand Mallick during the debate on this issue in the House on Wednesday. He urged all the MLAs to start one cow shelter each in their respective areas. He said that the state government will provide 90 per cent subsidy for this. It will provide Rs 54 per day for each cow, so that cowshed operators can make food and other arrangements for the cows.
