The Telangana Food Safety Commissioner visited the MG Bus Station in Imblibun area of Hyderabad on September 10, 2024. The task force inspected several food outlets at the location and found serious violations. Firstly, at Nandini Cafeteria, the officials found uneven floors, stagnant water, open toilet doors, windows without mosquito nets, 20 kg of suspected contaminated pickles and unlabelled food discovered inside the refrigerator. The food handlers were not wearing aprons or hair caps. That’s not all. The task force seized 50 kg of toor dal and 50 kg of packaged coriander as they were “found without proper labels such as packing date and expiry dates.” Food raw materials such as flour and legumes were also observed to be “stored directly on the floor, leaving no space between the items and the walls.” In addition, an iron stand placed over the rice preparation area was found to be corroded and rusty. [Food Business Operator] He had not maintained the necessary pest control records and fitness certificates. He had also failed to display a copy of his FSSAI licence in a conspicuous place.

The task force also inspected booth No. 24 of the MG Bus Station. They found that the FBO was operating its business without a license from the FSSAI. There were no fitness or pest control records available. The kitchen facilities were “in extremely unhygienic condition,” according to officials. Dustbins were “overflowing with filth” and flies were hovering around them. Cobwebs were seen near the storage area. There were also problems with the food. The team ruled out synthetic food colours which it found were being used in Chinese dishes. Also, cooked rice and flour were not stored properly as they were not labelled or covered.

The task force then conducted inspections at Raghavendra Bakery and Fast Food Restaurant. The bakery and fast food restaurant did not provide a copy of its FSSAI license at the time of inspection. Neither were fitness certificates nor pest control records available. The team noted broken floor tiles, greasy walls, live cockroach infestation in the kitchen, windows without mosquito nets and food handlers without caps and aprons. Synthetic colours were being used in the Chinese food, so these were ruled out. Officials claimed that the refrigerator was in unhygienic condition. Food stored inside had no labels or lids. Other food items such as rice and flour stored outside were kept directly on the floor.
