Former lawmaker Balkaur Singh quit the Bharatiya Janata Party in Haryana on Saturday and plans to join the Congress.

Singh tendered his resignation to BJP state president Mohanlal Badoli, saying that despite supporting the party in difficult times, he has not received due respect in the party.

“I have worked wholeheartedly for the party and have held high the flag of the BJP in difficult circumstances, but despite this, I have not earned the respect of the organisation or a government post,” the former MP said.

Balkaur Singh further criticised BJP candidate Rajendra Desujodha and said that former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had made serious allegations against the candidate in 2019.

“CM Manohal Lal had made serious allegations against him, saying that he is a drug peddler, that his family is a drug peddler, and even that bullets were fired in the village. We did not know this before. The candidature given by the Bharatiya Janata Party is incorrect. I have also asked the senior party leaders that he (Rajendra Desujodha) was rejected calling him a drug peddler, what are they saying about me? I and the people of my constituency are saddened by this,” he added.

He further criticised the BJP for claiming that they will curb drug consumption in the state and seize the properties of drug peddlers, but no action has been taken against the candidate. “Now we will see what action is taken against the candidate who has been removed, what enquiry is carried out on his property,” the former MP said.

The former MP will join the Congress party after travelling to Delhi.

“Today I will go to Delhi with my followers, under the leadership of former Prime Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda and Kumari Selja, and join the Congress. I will continue to serve the people,” the former MP said.
