Fractal: Artificial intelligence company Fractal has created India’s first medical LLM, Vaidya.ai

artificial intelligence company Fractal has built the first… doctor Master of Laws Vaidya.ai, a general-purpose assistant intended to assist users with diagnosis, treatment, and medical advice.

Vaidya is optimized using open-source base models that are 30 to 70 billion parameters in size and are trained on over 650,000 images and over 200,000 text inputs capable of understanding Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, etc., said co-founder and CEO Srikanth Velamakanni.

“Not even in the foreseeable future will we get to a situation where we don’t need doctors and AI can tell us what to do. AI is a long way from that. The problem we’re solving is very different. It’s about helping consumers access health care “It is more reliable information than any other source of information,” he explained.

Coupled with Fractal’s existing product Qure.ai, which is a mature player in healthcare AI for detecting tuberculosis, lung cancer, heart failure and stroke, Vaidya.ai could become a one-of-a-kind enterprise solution.

But it’s currently a Fractal AI research project rather than an enterprise product, Velamakanni said.

When asked about the accuracy of the answers given by Vaidya, he said that the assessments are conducted using questions from the PG NEET exam.

“PG NEET is the most competitive medical exam, which is taken by 200,000 postgraduate doctors every year. Fractal “It currently ranks 500th on that system with 83% accuracy,” he said.

Suraj Amonkar, director of AI research and platforms at Fractal, said: “The development involved training models and frameworks using Master of Laws and LVM architectures and validation of the models on over 20 years of postgraduate medical examinations, among other metrics to measure the performance of the models. While it offers valuable information and perspectives, it always encourages users to consult healthcare professionals for medical advice.”
