Please: Over Rs 4.4 crore was withdrawn from the bank accounts of a Gaya-based doctor, police said on Thursday.
According to officials, they have so far managed to prevent cybercriminals from making further withdrawals.
“The Gaya cyber police station has registered a case based on a complaint by Dr AN Rai, who said that cyber criminals had fraudulently withdrawn Rs 4.4 crore from his seven bank accounts in the last few days,” Gaya SSP Ashish Bharti said.
“The cybercriminals withdrew the money through a total of 14 transactions,” said DSP Sakshi Rai, in-charge of the cyber police station.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that the cybercriminals responsible are based in Delhi and Andhra Pradesh. Police have successfully intercepted Rs 58 lakh from the accounts of these criminals to prevent further withdrawals,” he said.
Earlier, after questioning the two arrested cyber criminals, the Prayagraj police on Saturday revealed that the fraudsters had been purchasing data of bank customers, including their mobile numbers, from databases obtained from insurance and sales agents.
The criminals, who were arrested on Friday, were involved in duping over half a dozen people under the pretext of cryptocurrency investments and digital fraud, amassing over Rs 1.5 crore.
