The prestigious US Open 2024 will kick off on Monday with top tennis players from around the world battling it out for the coveted trophy. The draws were held on August 22 and fans will be treated to some great battles in the final stages of the last Grand Slam of the season.

Novak Djokovic will be back in the spotlight after his historic gold medal in the men’s singles at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Serbian achieved a long-awaited ‘Career Golden Slam’ in Paris to fill his trophy cabinet with all possible titles in tennis.

Once again, the world No. 2 is set to enter the US Open as a heavy favorite but faces tough competition after a less-than-impressive showing on the ATP tours and at the first three majors in 2024. Rising stars Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are predicted to be on par with Djokovic at the 2024 US Open, which is fueling a new, growing rivalry in modern tennis.

Sinner claimed the 2024 Australian Open and then Alcaraz emerged victorious at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon to keep Djokovic on his toes as he chases his 25th Grand Slam title. The Serb defeated Alcaraz in one of the most thrilling finals of the Olympics to level the score in the tie, but he will be under pressure to try and equal his fifth US Open title.

In the women’s singles tournament, pundits have predicted a three-way battle for the 2024 US Open title. Current world number one Iga Swiatek, defending champion and home favourite Coco Gauff and world number two Aryna Sabalenka are all set to mount a title challenge in New York.

Sabalenka recently won the Cincinnati Open by defeating the crowd favourite Jessica Pegula in the final, which boosted her chances of winning the US Open title. At the last edition, she finished as runner-up after losing to Coco Gauff in the final. Gauff, 20, won her first Grand Slam title at the US Open last year and is once again the crowd favourite.

Swiatek was eliminated by Sabalenka at the Cincinnati Open after the Pole’s shock early exit at the 2024 Paris Olympics. But the four-time Roland-Garros champion remains a strong contender to win her second major in New York.
