On the occasion of the 78th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hoisted the national flag at the Red Fort in the national capital for the 11th consecutive time. PM Modi also addressed the nation from the Red Fort and spoke on various issues like ‘one nation, one election’, women’s safety, education system, natural disasters, Bangladeshi Hindus and others.

Highlights of Modi’s 78th Independence Day speech

– Viksit Bharat 2047: Prime Minister Modi stressed the importance of India becoming a developed nation by 2047 and asked citizens to come together to achieve this goal.

– Women’s safety: The Prime Minister said there is a need to publicise punishments for crimes against women to instill fear of consequences among perpetrators.

– Speaking about medical posts, the Prime Minister said that 75,000 new medical posts will be created in the next five years.

“In the last decade, we have increased the number of seats in the field of medicine to nearly 100,000. Today, around 25,000 youngsters go abroad every year to study medicine. Therefore, we have decided that 75,000 new seats in the field of medicine will be created in the next five years,” PM Modi said.

-PM Modi also unequivocally advocated a uniform civil code in the country, stating that a “secular civil code” instead of the existing “communal” one is the need of the hour.

“Laws that divide the country on the basis of religion, laws that become a reason for discrimination, such laws should have no place in society,” the prime minister said.

-Violence in Bangladesh: Addressing the issues in Bangladesh, Prime Minister Modi expressed the concerns of 140 million countrymen to ensure the safety of Hindus and minorities.

“India always wants our neighbouring countries to follow the path of prosperity and peace. We are committed to peace… In the coming days, we will continue to wish Bangladesh well on its ‘Vikas Yatra’ as we keep the welfare of humanity in mind,” he said.
