Full Emergency Declared At Thiruvananthapuram Airport After Bomb Threat On Air India Flight

A bomb scare on an Air India flight from Mumbai has prompted a full state of emergency to be declared at Thiruvananthapuram airport.

Thiruvananthapuram: A Indian air On Thursday, a flight from Mumbai to Thiruvananthapuram received a bomb threat, prompting authorities to declare a state of complete emergency at the airport in Kerala. The flight was moved to an isolation zone and all 135 passengers and crew members were evacuated safely, officials said.

Authorities are now conducting a thorough inspection of the plane.

In a statement, airport authorities said: “Aircraft AI 657 (BOM-TRV) reported a bomb threat at 07:30 on 22 August 2024. A full state of emergency was declared at TRV Airport at 07:36. The aircraft landed safely. It is now parked in the isolation zone, where the evacuation process has begun. There has been no impact on people’s lives. Airport operations are currently uninterrupted.”

Air India Statement

An Air India spokesperson said in a statement: “A specific security alert was detected on Air India flight AI657 during the flight from Mumbai to Thiruvananthapuram on August 22. The flight landed safely at Thiruvananthapuram and was parked at a remote area for mandatory screening by security agencies. All passengers and crew disembarked safely.”

Earlier this month, a passenger at Cochin International Airport made a false bomb threat, leading to a flight to Thailand being suspended for hours. The incident occurred during a security check when the accused made the false threat. Police arrested the individual after the incident, which led to a two-hour delay in the flight’s departure.

The passenger was scheduled to travel on Thai Lion Air flight SL211 and threatened the airline’s security staff during security screening at the secondary stopover point (SLPC). Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) confirmed that the incident occurred at gate number 19.
