Furious reaction from MNS workers: Raj Thackeray reacts to attack on Uddhav’s convoy; 54 arrested | India News

New Delhi: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray on Sunday attributed the attack on Uddhav Thackeray’s convoy by MNS workers to frustration arising from the lack of condemnation following a similar incident involving him.

MNS workers on Saturday night threw tomatoes and cow dung at the convoy of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray in Thane, a day after some people in Beed district hurled betel nuts (supari) at Raj Thackeray’s convoy.

Authorities had detained over 40 MNS workers in connection with the attack on Uddhav’s convoy and later allowed them to leave. Police later registered two FIRs naming 54 MNS workers, an official said on Sunday.

In a detailed post on social media, Raj Thackeray said that MNS workers reacted due to the lack of censure directed at the Shiv Sena (UBT) district chief in Beed.

“The actions of the MNS workers (in Thane) were fuelled by their frustration over the lack of condemnation of the behaviour exhibited by the Shiv Sena (UBT) district chief in Beed district. This lack of response triggered a backlash among the MNS workers,” he said.

Raj Thackeray has asked his workers to back off for now but warned that the behaviour of some people who have refused to change their ways after the assembly elections needs to be addressed.

The MNS chief claimed that during his tour of Marathwada region, attempts were made to create obstacles and some people who demanded reservation for Marathas were found to be affiliated with the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) and the Shiv Sena (UBT).

“Their real connections were exposed on social media,” the MNS chief added.

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut has distanced his party from the attack on Raj Thackeray’s convoy, blaming it on individuals advocating Maratha quota.

The MNS chief said he had warned against meddling in relations with his supporters and party workers, saying, “You cannot even imagine what they (MNS workers) would do. I said this in my interaction with the media. And yesterday, people realised what I meant.”

In his call for peace, Raj Thackeray stressed the importance of maintaining decorum in political discourse and urged the media to avoid sensationalism.

“Politics involves intense scrutiny and clashes between policies, but that does not justify unwarranted language against opponents. It is imperative to act in a manner that does not increase tensions in Maharashtra,” he added.

Despite the recent fracas, Raj Thackeray advocated preserving Maharashtra’s political culture of welcoming dissent. He called for fair elections and promised to address any unruly behaviour after the polls.

“I appeal to people not to mess with me or my party workers. Some may be established (in politics), but I have the support of the displaced,” he added.

Meanwhile, police have registered two FIRs against 54 MNS workers, including women, in connection with the protest in Thane on Saturday, an official said.

Ten people, including MNS Thane and Palghar chief Avinash Jadhav, have been named in one FIR, while 44 party activists have been named as accused in the second FIR for allegedly blocking traffic during their protest.

The FIRs have been registered under the Bharatiya Nayaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act, the official added.
