Multicultural shows:

Music, dhol and lezim will be part of the procession, giving a colourful start to the festival. This will be followed by aarti and atharvashirsha, sung by children aged between 10 and 16 years. Other cultural programmes to be held between 1 pm and 8 pm on both days include traditional Indian dances, western music and folk dances from countries such as Greece, China and Latvia. The talents of participants from different age groups will once again be on display, symbolising the diverse spirit of South Australia.

History and highlights of this tradition:

The 21-feet tall Ganesh idol sent from India in 2022 is one of the main attractions. The event originally started in 2016 on a very small scale with a 14-feet idol but has been gaining popularity year after year. Last year, it gathered a crowd of about 14,000 people. The festival also involves youth in organizing and conducting as part of cultural learning and appreciation.

Preparations for this program:

The event is funded by State Government Multicultural Grants and is supported financially by local businesses and donations from festival-goers. It provides an opportunity for local artists, choreographers and businesses to be recognised and to take on some responsibility in the community. Zoe Bettison MP and Joe Szakacs MP will also be in attendance, reflecting the role of this festival in strengthening ties within the community. The event will conclude with the traditional Ganesh visarjan, a joyous and festive farewell to the festival’s main idol, accompanied by exuberant music and dancing.
