There has been a lot of talk about the chemistry between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir due to their past fights and their sudden closeness ever since Gambhir took over as India’s head coach. But now former India cricketer Piyush Chawla has come out and told a story in which Gambhir dispelled all the rumours of an ongoing rift with Virat Kohli.
In an interaction with Shubhankar Mishra, Chawla first delved into Gambhir’s personality and said, “You know what’s the best thing about Gauti bhai? He motivates you, gives you a free hand and supports you. If he sees that talent in you, he will support you even if you don’t do anything in the 14 matches. If you can do it, he will support you, which is a brilliant thing for any player.”
Speaking about Gambhir’s aggressive behaviour on the field, Chawla added: “I played with him for 4-5 years – in fact, we played for India and India A together – the way he carries himself on the field, aggressive and all, he is equally polite. The amount of fun I have interacting with him is just unbelievable. Gauti bhai, one of the best human beings I have ever met.”
Gautam Gambhir recalls Virat Kohli’s 50th ODI ton:
The leg-spinner also claimed that Gambhir He dispelled rumors of a fight with Virat Kohli during an interaction in which he recalled a key moment from the veteran batsman’s 50th ODI century.
“Gauti bhai and I were doing a programme. A question was asked, ‘When Virat completed his 50th century, which player did he take the single off?’ I couldn’t answer it but Gambhir did. He said, ‘Now don’t say there is a fight. Gauti bhai is all class. He is one of the best,'” Chawla added.
It is noteworthy that Chawla and Gambhir have a long-standing relationship with the duo as they represented India in two World Cups together. Chawla was also part of the Knights of Calcutta‘ a dream run between 2012 and 2014, when the team won two IPL trophies under Gambhir’s leadership.
