Germany-based FlixBus expands into South India market

Based in Germany travel technology FlixBus has expanded its services to the South Indian market on September 3, 2024.

The launch comes after a successful debut in the North Indian market.

The company will begin operations on September 10, 2024, connecting the main cities in the southern region.

Covering major cities

Initial routes include services from Bengaluru to Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tirupati, Vijayawada and Belagavi.

FlixBus’ entry into South India adds to its growing network, which now connects 101 cities and 215 stops across the country.

One of the most anticipated routes is the daily Bengaluru-Belagavi service. The air-conditioned luxury sleeper bus departs from Bengaluru’s Majestic Bus Terminus at 9.10 pm and reaches Belagavi at 6.55 am the next day.

The return service from Belagavi departs at 9:15 pm and arrives in Bengaluru at 6:25 am

The company claims that each bus comes with advanced safety features such as ABS (anti-lock braking system), ESC (electronic stability control) and two-point seat belts for all passengers.

Comment by Karnataka Minister MB Patil

Karnataka Minister for Commerce, Industry and Infrastructure MB Patil said: “FlixBus will address the long-distance mobility needs of people in Karnataka and the southern region with a technology-driven mass transit alternative.”

Additionally, FlixBus has partnered with six local bus operators in South India, aiming to boost their operations by leveraging its digital platform.

The partnership enables local operators to optimize their services, reach a wider audience and ensure a consistent travel experience for passengers.

Future expansion plans

Looking ahead, FlixBus plans to expand further across South India, adding a total of 33 cities and over 200 new daily connections in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala.

“This expansion is not just about adding new routes; it is about providing top-notch technology to local partners, ensuring that passengers enjoy a seamless and consistent travel experience across all our services,” said Surya Khurana, CEO of the company.
