GMDC gets permission to mine coal from three mines in Odisha, will invest Rs 50,000 crore

Rourkela News: The ruling BJP government in Odisha has given permission to Gujarat’s public sector undertaking, Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC), to develop three mines in the state. Of these, there are two mines at Chhendipada in Angul district and one at Hemgir block in Sundergarh district. The strategic expansion of GMDC in Odisha was recently discussed by the company’s Managing Director Rupwant Singh (IAS), who met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The Chief Minister welcomed the corporation’s project and assured to acquire the necessary land for it. On this occasion, Additional Secretary to the Chief Minister Nikunj Bihari Dhal (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary Surendra Kumar (IAS), Principal Secretary, Finance and Steel Mines Department Shashwat Mishra (IAS), Chief Mines Director, GMDC, Odisha Lt. Gen. Sanjeev Sharma, GMDC CGM HK Joshi, Swagat Joshi and GM Virendra Mahato were present.

Call for government cooperation for the installation of a 4,400 MW power plant

In this meeting, the Chief Minister was briefed about the mining projects of GMDC in Odisha. He also sought the cooperation of the Odisha government to set up a 4400 MW power plant here. It was said that this power plant is important to overcome the power shortage in Gujarat. This will create employment opportunities in the state and will also increase the revenue of the state. At the same time, as a special part of the overall plan of GMDC, there will be a capital investment of more than Rs 50,000 crore for the mineral programme in Odisha and other big and small projects related to it. Thus, sustainable development of the area will also take place.

GMDC assures Chief Minister about CSR activities

During the interaction, GMDC Managing Director Roopwant Singh reiterated the corporation’s commitment towards community welfare and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Odisha. He also assured that at the time of land acquisition for GMDC coal mine, the project works will be carried out after a thorough discussion on the demands of the beneficiaries of the area while deciding on the rehabilitation and relocation package including adequate compensation to the land holders.

GMDC to set up world-class sports centre, multi-faceted hospital and school

Apart from this, under CSR, GMDC will also establish a world-class sports centre, a multifaceted hospital and an English medium school here. In this regard, it has set an objective to bring development in the fields of education, health and entertainment along with the development of the local population. In this way, GMDC will not only strengthen the mutual relations between Odisha and Gujarat but will also play an important role in the social and economic development of Odisha.
