GOAT actor Mohan reveals why he rejected Mani Ratnam’s Anjali

Mani Ratnam is one of the legendary filmmakers of Indian cinema and every actor dreams of working with him. However, did you know that Tamil actor Mohan once turned down working with the actor? The director had approached him for the lead role in his 1990 film Anjali but he turned it down due to creative differences.

For the uninitiated, Anjali won three National Film Awards and was chosen as India’s official entry to the Oscars in 1991, but was not nominated.

Why did Mohan reject Mani Ratnam’s Anjali?

In an interview with WhoUlagamMohan shared that he refused to be a part of the children’s drama due to creative differences with Ratnam. He also couldn’t accept the fact of keeping a differently-abled child in a separate room.

When he turned down the offer, Mani Ratnam approached Raghuvaran to offer him the role and he accepted. The film is about the story of a mentally challenged girl who is dying and the emotional trauma experienced by her family.

Will Mohan and Mani Ratnam reunite?

Before Anjali, Mohan had acted in two Mani Ratnam films, Idaya Kovil and Mouna Ragam. However, after rejecting Anjali, he never participated in any of Ratnam’s films again and it has been 30 years since then.

What’s next for Mohan?

The actor will be next seen in Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited film. The Greatest of All Time (GOAT)Directed by Venkat Prabhu, the sci-fi action film stars Vijay in dual roles, alongside Prashanth, Prabhu Deva and Ajmal Ameer. The film follows Gandhi, the former leader of a special anti-terrorist squad, who reconciles with his squad members to address issues arising from his previous actions. The greatest of all time It is scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on September 5 in both standard and IMAX formats.
