Google Pixel 9: Google launches Pixel 9 and Pixel Watch 3 smartphones amid renewed push for artificial intelligence

The Pixel seamlessly integrates users into Google’s online services, following Apple’s strategy with the iPhone and the App Store.

And it poses a direct challenge to the iPhone”Apple Intelligence“AI and the company’s alliance with OpenAI, maker of ChatGPT.

But this raises questions about how well Google protects personal data and how regulators will react to the tech giant’s move to make users even more dependent on its platform.

Last week, a US judge dealt a major legal blow to Google by ruling in a landmark antitrust case that the company has maintained a monopoly with its dominant search engine.

Pixels represent a small portion of the global smartphone market, led by Samsung and Apple.

However, one of the purposes of the phone is to showcase the capabilities of the Android operating system which powers most of the world’s smartphones.

Pixel 9 models optimize Google’s user experience IA Gemini capabilities and can help with everyday tasks like booking appointments or finding old files in the mountain of data people tend to keep, according to Pixel senior director of product management Shenaz Zack.

“With your permission, Gemini can offer you unparalleled personalized help accessing information in your inbox, Gmail, calendar and more,” Zack said during a briefing.

You can use a Pixel to take a photo of a concert poster, for example, then check to see if that date on your calendar is free and compose a message inviting friends to join you.

And conversations with Google’s AI On Pixel there will be more freedom, allowing for interruptions or sudden changes of topic.

The new Pixels will also be able to take notes during phone calls, automatically notifying the other party first.

Google said it has made privacy a priority, from protecting data used by its AI to allowing users to create password-protected private spaces for apps and other content.

The Pixel 9 starts at $899, and the new foldable model is priced at $1,899.

Google has been competing against Microsoft, OpenAI and others to lead in AI since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022 sparked intense interest in the technology.

Meta has incorporated its artificial intelligence into its smart glasses, allowing users to ask questions about what they are looking at.

AI gadgets galore

Along with the new Pixel smartphones, Google introduced new models of Pixel headphones and smartwatches that feature AI features and are synced to work together seamlessly.

Pixel watches will be able to access live feeds from doorbells equipped with Nest cameras, allowing users to see who’s in their homes and talk to them.

Last week, Google unveiled an AI-powered TV streaming device designed to be the hub of a hyper-smart home.

A sleek Google TV streamer enhanced with Gemini AI is launching on September 24, marking the end of a Chromecast line that dates back more than a decade.

“We’re using artificial intelligence to develop the future of the Google Home and Nest experiences,” senior director of product management Anish Kattukaran told AFP during a press conference.

Nest is Google’s line of “smart” home devices that includes speakers, cameras, locks, thermostats and routers.
