Google launches first Pixel 8 smartphones made in India

Google has started the rollout of its first Pixel 8 smartphones made in India, just ahead of its global ‘Made by Google’ event scheduled for August 13, where the tech giant is expected to unveil the next-generation Pixel 9 series.

The decision to manufacture Pixel devices in India reflects Google’s strategy to expand its presence in the high-end smartphone market, which is growing rapidly in the country and is the second largest in the world. With the growing demand for high-end smartphones, Google aims to strengthen its presence in India by local production of its Pixel line.

“We are excited to announce that our #Pixel8 devices made in India are now rolling off the production lines,” Google India announced on X (formerly Twitter). The company also expressed gratitude for the support of Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and stressed its commitment to delivering the #TeamPixel experience to consumers across India.

An earlier news report revealed that Google has collaborated with Foxconn and Dixon subsidiary Padget Electronics to manufacture Pixel smartphones in India, marking a significant step in the tech giant’s localization efforts.
