The technology giant Google has decided to expand the availability of Gemini Live to all Android users. Gemini Live, a two-way voice feature for the Gemini AI chatbot, was previously only available to Gemini Advanced users with a Google One AI Premium subscription. This expansion will allow all Android users to participate in voice conversations with AI.
Notably, only the basic version will be available on the free tier, meaning users won’t have the luxury of the 10 different voices offered in the paid version.
Android users with the Gemini app will be able to see a waveform icon at the bottom right of the screen, next to the microphone and camera icons. To use two-way communication, users must tap the icon which will activate Gemini Live.
Similar to a phone call interface, the full screen includes hold and end buttons, as well as a sound wave pattern. To use AI, users can press the hold button and ask questions or change the direction of the conversation.
In other Google Gemini-related developments: Google Gemini launched two new tools for Android that were previously highlighted at Google I/O this year. The feature known as “Ask about this screen” helps users ask questions about what is happening on the screen. Another feature called “Ask about this video” is also supported on YouTube. The message appears at the top of the Gemini window after the user has commanded the AI assistant.
Once the user clicks on this tab, a temporary screenshot is taken and then the user can type and ask their query. While the robot’s early reaction relies on screenshot features, the user can instruct Gemini to use internet connectivity to get more information or even recap a news article.
