Google Wallet to offer access to Ayushman Bharat health cards from 2025

Starting next year, more than 600 million Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID cardholders will be able to access their digital health cards through Google Wallet. The announcement, made during a Google event on Thursday, October 3, marks a significant step in India’s digital healthcare ecosystem.

ABHA IDs are a key part of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), which aims to digitize healthcare services across the country. These IDs allow users to store and manage their health information, such as lab reports and prescriptions, and share it with participating healthcare providers.

Google is partnering with Eka Care, an authorized issuer of ABHA IDs, to bring these health cards to Google Wallet, it said in a blog post.

This will allow ABHA ID holders to access their health cards on their smartphones.

To protect user privacy, access to ABHA health cards will require authentication via fingerprint, PIN or password in Google Wallet.

In addition to this, Google has worked with healthcare providers in India to create over 800 health knowledge panels in search, available in English and Hindi.

These panels cover important health topics, such as diabetes, cancer, and mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety, Google said.
