Governor’s plane could not land due to bad weather, returned

Rourkela. After the formation of the twin-engine BJP government in the state, there were hopes of comprehensive development of the Rourkela airport. But even after two months of the formation of the BJP government, chaos continues here. The situation is that due to the absence of the Instrumental Landing System (ILS) at this airport, the plane of the first civilian Governor of the state, Raghuvar Das, returned from here on Sunday morning. While before the elections, the state BJP president Manmohan Samal had assured that after the formation of the BJP government in the state, the Rourkela airport land built on state government land will be transferred to the Airports Authority of India (AAI). But the twin-engine BJP government has not done anything of the sort yet. Due to which there is chaos at this airport. The result of this was seen on Sunday morning when the Governor’s plane could not land here due to bad weather and had to return.

The governor was scheduled to visit Union Minister Jual Oram.

Jhingia Oram, wife of Sundergarh MP and Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, passed away recently. On August 28, there will be an Ekadshah and Prasad admission programme at Kendudihi residence of Lahunipada block. Since Governor Raghuvar Das had a programme elsewhere on August 28, he was scheduled to reach Kendudihi on Sunday and visit the residence of Minister Jual Oram to express his condolences to the family. After reaching Rourkela airport by air, he was scheduled to reach Kendudihi by road. The Governor’s plane reached Rourkela between 10 and 10.30 am on Sunday morning. But due to bad weather and lack of ILS facilities at Rourkela airport, this plane could not land here. After circling for some time, this plane had to return. So the disorganisation of Rourkela airport has been exposed again.

Need to transfer ownership to AAI

Sachetna Nagrik Manch president Vimal Bisi said that for Rourkela airport to become fully functional and for its comprehensive development, its ownership needs to be handed over to AAI. Only after this, ILS can be established here. So there will be no inconvenience in landing aircraft here even in bad weather. To resolve this issue, the twin-engine BJP government should think seriously.
