Vienna Fashion Week features retirees in a show that promotes social inclusion and counteracts age discrimination.

Retirees dazzle at Vienna Fashion Week
Over a year ago, she joined a sewing club for city retirees run by Irina Reichel, who was determined to break into the notoriously closed world of fashion This year, “the fact that these ten ladies are walking the catwalk means taking a stand against age discrimination, but in favor of social inclusion,” Reichel said, pointing to her “brilliant” protégés wearing an elegant evening gown and even a wedding dress.

In the audience, Verena Heger said she saw herself reflected in these models walking down the catwalk and said they were “just as beautiful” as the others because they “radiate from within”. “Modernity is ageless,” said Heger, who retired two years ago, before a 70-year-old in a sheer blouse and black bra walked past her to thunderous applause.
