Heavy rains and floods cause havoc, 24 crocodiles arrive in residential area, panic

Gujarat Flood: Due to heavy rains between August 27 and 29 in Gujarat’s Vadodara city, the water level of Vishwamitri river rose and a total of 24 crocodiles were swept away by the flood waters and reached residential areas. A Forest Department official said on Sunday that all these crocodiles have been saved. There is an atmosphere of panic among the people over the arrival of crocodiles in residential areas. Many videos and pictures are going viral on social media in which the crocodile can be seen even inside the house.

There are 440 crocodiles in the Vishwamitri River.

According to Karansingh Rajput, range forest officer, Vadodara, around 440 crocodiles live in the Vishwamitri river, many of which are washed away and reach residential areas during floods caused by the release of water from the Ajwa dam. Rajput said that during these three days, apart from 24 crocodiles, we also rescued 75 other animals including snakes, cobras, five big turtles weighing around 40 kg and a porcupine. There are many residential areas near the Vishwamitri river. He said that the smallest crocodile we saved is two feet long, while the length of the largest crocodile is 14 feet. It was caught on Thursday from Kamnath Nagar, situated on the banks of the river. The locals informed us about it. Apart from these, two more 11-feet long crocodiles were rescued on Thursday from an open area near the EME Circle and the Biology Department of MS College (Manonmaniam Sundaranar).
