Amid the ever-increasing tension in the Middle East, Hezbollah has fired about 30 projectile missiles at Israel. The Israeli army IDF confirmed this and said that several missiles were fired from Lebanon last night.
Lebanon’s Hezbollah organization took responsibility for this attack and said that they carried out this attack by targeting Israeli military bases. Most of these missiles fell in open fields, due to which there was no loss of life or property.
After this attack, US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin ordered the deployment of guided missile submarines in the Middle East. He spoke to Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant and told him that he has ordered the deployment of two ships and a submarine for help.
The US Defense Ministry Pentagon said in a statement that Defense Minister Austin has asked the Abraham Lincoln Strike Group to further increase the supply of weapons to the Middle East.
Why are Iran and Lebanon angry with Israel?
Tensions have increased in the Middle East after the assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyya in Iran’s capital Tehran last month. Israel is said to be involved in Haniyya’s murder. A day before this incident, Hezbollah’s top military commander Fouad Shukr was assassinated in Lebanon’s capital Beirut. Haniyya was the chief of Hamas in Gaza and he had gone to Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s new president.
After the murder of Haniya, Iran had also warned Israel of dire consequences. After this, Hezbollah started targeting Israel. Even before this, Hezbollah had fired about 50 rockets on Israel. However, Israel’s Iron Dome foiled this attack.
The possibility of a large-scale war in the Middle East has increased after Iran and Hezbollah announced revenge. Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden held an emergency meeting to discuss the current situation. The Pentagon has announced the deployment of additional military forces in the region to prevent further escalation.
