The move underscores the state’s commitment to combat the sale of adulterated liquor. Chief Minister Sukhu explained that the recent amendments to the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act, 2011, have introduced strict measures against illegal sale of liquor, PTI reported.

The Chief Minister stressed that these changes are expected to have a significant impact in controlling the illegal distribution of liquor. “Illegal sale of liquor to minors or their use as vendors is a serious offence. To address this issue, the new law provides for penalties including six months imprisonment or a fine of up to Rs 50,000,” Sukhu said.

To ensure strict implementation of the amendments, the government has proposed the formation of an excise police force that will strengthen the existing agencies. He highlighted the recent tragedies in the state, including the death of eight people due to adulterated liquor in Mandi. Sukhu said the new measures are aimed at preventing such incidents. The state is tackling drug-related problems by recruiting over 1,200 officers to strengthen its response, he added.
