Shivaji statue collapses: The Indian Navy has expressed concern over the incident of collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji statue in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra. It has deployed a team to find out the cause and initiate repair work. The Navy has ordered an inquiry into the matter. This statue was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year on Navy Day. A 35-feet-high statue collapsed around 1 pm on Monday at Rajkot Fort in Sindhudurg district.
The Indian Navy issued a statement late in the evening. It said that a team has been deployed to immediately investigate the cause of the incident and repair and restore the statue at the earliest. The Indian Navy expresses its deep concern to the residents of Sindhudurg over the damage to the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj dedicated on Navy Day on December 4, 2023.

Meanwhile, opposition parties have continued to attack Maharashtra’s Mahayuti coalition government and the BJP over the poor quality of the construction work of the statue. Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi questioned how many crores of rupees were involved in corruption while awarding the contract for the construction of the statue. Priyanka Chaturvedi raised questions to the state government on social media platform X. She wrote: Who was the contractor? Is it true that the work was handed over to a contractor from Thane? What action will be taken against the contractor? How much ‘Khokha’ was given to the ‘Khokha Government’ by the contractor?
Owaisi took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen President Asaduddin Owaisi addressed the Prime Minister regarding this incident. Narendra Modi shoot. Asaduddin Owaisi wrote on X: The 35-feet-tall Shivaji statue inaugurated by Narendra Modi has collapsed. This reflects the poor quality of infrastructure created by the Modi government. Shivaji was a symbol of equality and secularism, the fall of his statue shows Narendra Modi’s lack of commitment to Shivaji’s vision.
