To some, it may seem insignificant, but the world really is a better place now that there are Windows laptops that can last a full day of work (and maybe some gaming, too) on a single charge
This is made possible by the Qualcomm Snapdragon chips that power Copilot+ PCs. HP Omnibook X 14 joined this race in May And, it’s safe to say, it’s giving tough competition to other AI PCs on the market.
At first glance, the laptop looks like just another HP device, with a slim body and rounded edges, and it weighs 1.35kg. As someone who spends most of the day typing, the rounded edges of the HP Omnibook X are certainly appreciated.
It’s powered by the Snapdragon X Elite processor, which has turned it into the Charizard from Charmander (my Pokemon fans will understand the reference). The chipset is complemented by 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage, giving it plenty of power and storage capacity to run AI features (more on that later).
It features a 14-inch 2.2K LCD touchscreen with a 16:10 aspect ratio. It’s crisp and sharp, but not quite bright enough for outdoor use. For all the machine is capable of, I would have loved to see an OLED panel here.
The chiclet keyboard is probably the laptop’s strong point in terms of design. It’s comfortable and easy to use, even for extended periods. However, the trackpad gave me the exact opposite experience, with inconsistent clicks and requiring extra force to click on certain parts. It’s also quite strange not to have a touch trackpad on a high-end laptop, which detracts from the premium experience.
As for the AI experience itself, I think Windows OEMs have managed to create a system that will do things for you and HP has added a nice touch of its own with features like Poly Camera Pro and Poly Studio that enhance the qualities of your video calls with the help of AI.
HP also has its own HP Companion, which helps users discuss their PC or other products in the HP range with the AI chatbot, which then offers solutions. However, it currently has limited capabilities and is expected to be expanded in the future.
Microsoft Paint’s live co-creator is also a fun and useful feature for those who rely on graphics but can’t draw to save their life. Although I found it less accurate than in The ASUS Vivobook S 15I’m not sure why.
Lastly, the star of the show is the battery, which easily lasted me at least nine hours a day on a single charge, while my work involved surfing the internet in series with around 10 tabs open simultaneously, apps like WhatsApp and Slack running in the background, occasionally watching videos for research, and more. A lightweight laptop and not having to bring the charger to work – that’s the real dream.
In conclusion
The HP Omnibook X 14 is a good proposition as an AI PC and offers almost everything one would expect with a battery life that matches Apple’s MacBook Air M2 and has similar performance. However, at ₹1,39,999, this is not the only Copilot+ PC on the market. I will say the same thing I said for the ASUS Vivobook S 15 – evaluate your options in terms of design, price, and the AI features offered by OEMs because the Copilot features will remain the same across the board.
That said, if you have your eyes on the HP Omnibook X 14, it’s an excellent buy.
