I like to watch Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma during my free time: Aman Sehrawat

Aman Sehrawat bagged the bronze medal in the men’s 57kg freestyle category at the Olympics after defeating Darian Toi Cruz on Friday. The 21-year-old world under-23 champion was the only Indian wrestler to qualify for the Paris Games and he did not disappoint, winning 13-5 in the bronze play-off at the Champ de Mars Arena.

Indian wrestlers have not missed out on a medal at the Olympics since 2008 and Aman’s effort helped India win its sixth medal and move closer to its tally of seven from the Tokyo Games.

While speaking to reporters after the win, Sehrawat was asked what she likes to do in her free time apart from focusing on her sports. She replied, “I like to watch Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma in my free time.”

Sehrawat’s love for TMKOC went viral on social media and fans of the show could relate to her excitement. Though the makers of the show are often under scrutiny these days, its old episodes still hold a special place in the hearts of the audience.

With dominant wins by technical superiority over Vladimir Egorov and Zelimkhan Abakarov, the Indian wrestler advanced to the semi-finals without conceding a single point, but was no match for Japan’s Rei Higuchi in the semi-finals.

After losing his parents at the tender age of 12, the famous Chhatrasal Stadium, where his father had enrolled him in 2013, became his second home. He hails from the centre that has given India four Olympic medallists – Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, Bajrang Punia and Ravi Dahiya.

Reetika Hooda (76kg) will be in action on Saturday and if she wins a medal, India will equal her Tokyo record.
