‘They shot me 12 times…’: Victims of October 7 Hamas attack recount horror as Israel marks first year of terrorism

Tel-Aviv: It has been a year since Hamas fired 5,000 rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israel, killing hundreds of people. The decades-long conflict between Israel and Palestine turned into a full-blown war between Israel and Hamas. The war that began with two nations has now spread across Western Asia, as Iran, Lebanon and Syria are among the nations involved. One year after the Hamas attack on October 7, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) shared a heartbreaking video of soldiers, frontline workers and locals remembering the horrific day.

‘Never forget’: IDF shares heartbreaking video

One year after the October 7 attack, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) shared a video on its social media account on ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter), with the hashtag ‘Never Forget’. The video shows relatives of those killed, soldiers and other Israelis speaking about the horrors they witnessed on October 7 in different parts of Israel following the Hamas attack.

‘They shot me 12 times in the body…’

The video begins with a female army officer recalling her horrible experience while doing her duty and saving her country. She reveals how she was shot 12 times in the body and bullets were fired into her legs, hip, hands and shoulder.

She said: “On October 7, I was shot 12 times in the body… in both legs, in the hips, in the left hand and in the shoulder. “We were six soldiers, we tried to counterattack… they threw grenades into our room, they came in and shot everyone.”

‘There were bodies, only bodies…’

Another soldier recounted that fateful day and said: “The wounded come to the hospital. There were bodies, just bodies arriving at the hospital… people (lying) dead near me. “Alina was murdered on October 7… she was my girlfriend.”

‘The first thing I see are three little children murdered at the door’

Another soldier, who has been fighting for Israel, reviewed the horror and said: “We stumble upon Be’eri and the first thing I see are three little children murdered at the gate. After three and a half intense days of fighting with hardly any sleep, food or water, we were able to take control of Kibbutz Be’eri again. “We will never stop fighting to make sure something like this never happens again.”

‘My family members were killed… The house became a war zone’

Relatives of people who were brutally murdered by Hamas on October 7 shared what they had gone through then, on the fateful day of October 7, and what they feel now, a year since the attack.

A young woman who lost most of her relatives remembered that day and said: “Four members of my family were killed and seven others were kidnapped. My family entered the safe room, that day they were spread across two houses. In one house everyone was murdered and in the other almost everyone was kidnapped except one who was also murdered. “Even a year later, we are still grieving, we are still mourning the people we lost.”

Another man described how his house suddenly became a war zone. He said: “It’s a strange situation because it’s your house… it’s a place where you barbecue… it’s a place where you receive your friend. And in a second, it’s a war zone. “64 people from Kfar Aza were killed that day and 19 people were kidnapped.”
