IBM Semiconductors: L&T Semiconductor Technologies and IBM announce plans to collaborate on processor technology innovations

L&T Semiconductor Technologies on Tuesday announced that it is looking to collaborate with IBM to design advanced processors at the inaugural Semicon India 2024 event. The company said the scope of this work could include designing processors for edge devices and hybrid cloud systems, as well as for areas such as mobility, industrial, energy and servers.

Under this collaboration, IBM and L&T Semiconductor Technologies said they plan to focus on innovation, functionality and performance to enable reliable, secure and scalable computing for a wide range of applications. They said this work would support India’s ambition to create semiconductor technologies that are competitive in the global market.

“This is one of the most exciting times in the history of technology, specifically in the Indian semiconductor technology ecosystem. Semiconductors are changing the way entire industries operate and reinventing the way conventional architecture is designed and used. The goal of our work with IBM is to leverage our cutting-edge semiconductor design technology and IBM’s advanced processors to forge next-generation technology products,” Sandeep Kumar, CEO, L&T Semiconductor Technologies, said in a statement.

The company said the relationship between the companies emphasizes a shared approach to revolutionizing the design and development of advanced processors while adhering to regulatory standards and creating competitive products for global markets.

While L&T Semiconductor Technologies aims to build a portfolio of smart device semiconductors across multiple verticals, IBM is known for driving innovation in silicon and processor development, both independently and with an ecosystem of partners.

“Our collaboration with L&T Semiconductor Technologies will be part of our ongoing commitment to enhance India’s digital transformation and economic growth through advanced AI processor design and solutions. Leveraging our collective strengths and advanced capabilities, we are dedicated to working with key public and private collaborators to advance the next step in semiconductor and processor design technologies,” Mukesh Khare, General Manager, L&T Semiconductor Technologies.
