IIT Bombay has also been the first choice of JEE Advanced toppers this year. Out of the top 100 ranked students of JEE Advanced, 72 chose IIT Bombay. At the same time, the popularity of B.Tech Computer Science Engineering course at IIT Bombay also remains intact. All 10 All India Toppers of JEE Advanced have been admitted to the B.Tech Computer Science course at IIT Bombay Powai campus. 24 students out of the top 25 rankers and 47 students out of the top 50 have chosen IIT Bombay Powai campus.
A total of 246 students among the top 1,000 All India Rank (AIR) scorers in JEE Advanced 2024 chose IIT Bombay after the final round of seat allotment, according to official data. Of the 246 students, 29 are girls and the remaining 217 are boys. As per the Times of India report, IIT Madras, which takes the responsibility of organising joint seat allotment, has not shared the seat allotment data after the end of admission for the 2024 batch. As per the data released by IIT Bombay, 179 of the top 500 JEE Advanced rankers chose IIT-B. Last year, 69 of the top 100 rankers got seats in IIT B, though the B.Tech in Computer Science course was the first choice of 93 students among the top 100.
The top 100 students from each IIT campus are considered very important. About 30 years ago, IIT-Kharagpur was the Mecca of engineering. This year, not a single student made it out of the top 100 at the country’s oldest IIT Kharagpur. Before that, in 2004, only three of the top 100 had gone there.
This time in JEE Advanced, Ved Lahoti of IIT Delhi Zone topped All India by securing 355 marks out of 360. While among girls, Dwija Dharmeshkumar Patel of IIT Bombay Zone topped with 332 marks. Dwija Dharmeshkumar Patel’s all India rank was 7. A total of 48,248 candidates passed out of 1,80,200 candidates who appeared for both JEE Advanced Paper 1 and 2 this year. Among them were 7,964 girls.
