IIT Kanpur launches project for UP’s digital health stack

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) and ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth on Tuesday announced a partnership to work on the Uttar Pradesh digital project. Health Stack Project to strengthen health in the state.

The Stack will be available for use in the public healthcare system, starting in Uttar Pradesh.

As per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), ICICI Foundation will support this initiative with significant funding requirements over several years.

The Stack combines technology, medical research and innovation to create a paradigm shift in the public healthcare space.

The project aims to develop medical technology devices, improve point-of-care (POC) services and strengthen public healthcare capacity.

In addition, it will also help in the detection of chronic diseases through devices integrated with Artificial Intelligence.

The project will be located in the Kanpur Institute of Technology campus.

“With core expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning and a thriving medical technology ecosystem, Massachusetts Institute of Technology “Kanpur is well positioned to provide the necessary technological support to the mission of developing the Digital Health Stack. We are grateful to ICICI Foundation for their generous contribution towards this initiative and look forward to making it a successful endeavour,” said Professor Manindra Agrawal, Director, IIT Kanpur.

“ICICI Foundation has been working towards building capabilities in the healthcare space. In this regard, we are pleased to collaborate with IIT Kanpur to create a digital health toolkit that will help digitise and improve the public healthcare system,” added Sanjay Datta, Chairman, ICICI Foundation.

In February, IIT Kanpur signed an MoU with the UP government to collaborate on research and development efforts of UP Digital Health Stack under the National Health Stack programme of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.

Under the MoU, IIT Kanpur will create, validate and maintain several vital digital health services for the state of UP.
