The Indian Institute of Technology is giving admission to the reserved category with a lower limit and along with this, the fees have also been reduced.
According to PTI report, IIT Madras director V. Kamakoti said that in JEE-based admission, fee waiver and relaxation is provided from the application stage itself. At the application stage, students belonging to SC, ST and PWD (Persons with Disabilities) categories are required to pay only half of the examination fees. Apart from this, the limit has been relaxed to increase the number of admissions in SC, ST, PWD and OBC categories.
This year, the JEE Advanced exam was conducted by IIT Madras.
He also said that there are currently 23 IITs and according to the Ministry of Education, several initiatives have been taken to focus on providing support to students from underprivileged sections of the society. Apart from this, some IITs are also taking additional measures individually, he stated.
He said that to benefit more students from the high-quality education provided by the IITs, SC and ST students scoring below the exemption mark in the selection cut-off will be given special admission through preparatory courses. . awarded, allowing them to join IITs directly after completing the preparatory course.
A multilingual call center was also installed to answer candidate queries. It was introduced this year to handle cases (those that attempted at least one payment) that had last-minute technical glitches.
During the admission process, all eligible candidates are required to deposit the seat acceptance fee to demonstrate their commitment to securing the seat. SC, ST and PWD students have to pay only 50% fees as compared to regular candidates. Kamakoti said that previously, without this fee, many students had blocked seats but were unable to attend classes, leaving many seats empty.
Kamakoti said, “Since SC and ST reserved seats can only be allotted to candidates belonging to those categories, vacancy of an SC or ST seat does not deny any other eligible candidate from the reserved category the opportunity to attend the IIT.
He further said that if the income of a student’s parents is less than Rs 1 lakh, all the 23 IITs will waive the entire tuition fee, irrespective of the category. Additionally, full tuition fee waiver is offered to students belonging to SC, ST and PWD categories. Additionally, two-thirds of the tuition fees have been waived for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) students whose parental income is between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh.
