Weather Updates: Following a wetter than normal August, India is likely to experience above normal rainfall in September, with heavy to very heavy rainfall in northwest India and surrounding areas.
Above-normal rainfall is likely over most parts of India except for parts of extreme northwest India, many parts of southern peninsula, northern Bihar and northeast Uttar Pradesh as well as most parts of northeast India where below-normal rainfall is expected, the IMD said.
IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said the country is expected to receive above-normal rainfall in September, 109 per cent of the long-period average of 167.9 mm.

“Extremely heavy rainfall is possible in these areas, which may lead to flooding. We must be careful of landslides, mudslides and mudslides,” Mohapatra warned.
“We expect a low pressure system to develop over the Bay of Bengal every week of the month, resulting in significant rainfall across the country,” he added.
The monsoon trough is expected to remain in its normal position with the possibility of several low pressure systems developing over the Bay of Bengal which could travel west-northwestwards up to Rajasthan.
The depression is also likely to move towards the Himalayan foothills and there is a possibility of a western disturbance affecting the region in September, Mohapatra said.
