There was talk of keeping the water level below 182 metres, but the MLA’s talks with the administration failed to materialise.

This year, a disaster management meeting was held on June 26, 2024 under the chairmanship of Sub-Divisional Officer Shubhra Rani at Chandil Sub-Divisional Office in connection with monsoon. In the meeting, it was agreed that the water level of the dam would be around 181.69 metres down from 182 metres. In the disaster management meeting, the officials of Swarnarekha Project discussed maintaining the water level of the dam at 181.69 metres.

The MLA expressed his anger and said that people failed to fulfil their responsibility.

MLA Sabita Mahato had directed the department to keep it below 181 metres. Despite this, like every year, this year too the department has done the job of physically and mentally harassing the displaced people of Chandil dam. The displaced villagers said that Ichagarh MLA Sabita Mahato has done the job of drowning hundreds of displaced people. Had the MLA worked to open the radial gate of Chandil dam on time, hundreds of displaced people could have been saved from their homes.
