India confirms Pakistan’s invitation to SCO summit in October

India confirmed on Friday that it has received an invitation from Pakistan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Heads of Government Summit to be held in Islamabad in October. Pakistan invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the SCO conference on Thursday.

Responding to a reporter’s query during a press conference here, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said, “Yes, we have received an invitation from Pakistan for the SCO Conference of Heads of Government. We do not have any detailed information in this regard.

Pakistan will host the conference in October. Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said at her weekly press briefing in Pakistan: “Invitations have been sent to the top leaders of the countries to participate in the meeting to be held on October 15 and 16. An invitation has also been sent to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He said that some countries have already confirmed their participation in the meeting, and their names will be shared. The SCO was founded in 2001 at a summit held in Shanghai by Russia, China, the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India and Pakistan became its permanent members in 2017.
