The Indian personal computer (PC) market, which includes desktops, laptops and workstations, shipped 3.39 million units in the second quarter (Q2) of calendar year 2024, up 7.1 percent year-on-year (YoY).
Lenovo, which ranked fourth in the first quarter, overtook Dell and Acer Group to become the second-largest PC maker in the second quarter as its shipments in the consumer and commercial segments grew 32.7 percent year-on-year and 6.3 percent year-on-year, respectively.
“Vendors kicked off back-to-school and college campaigns, and good demand was also seen in the e-commerce channel during online sales. Vendors stocked up the channel to prepare for the upcoming Diwali sales, leading to healthy growth in consumer PC shipments,” said Bharath Shenoy, research manager, IDC India and South Asia.
The launch of artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled computers is expected to drive new business orders starting in the third quarter. However, they may not generate significant consumer demand in the near term.
