India’s liquor exports to grow 15-20% in 2024-25 from $389 million, says government official

India’s alcoholic beverage exports are on track for significant growth, with projections indicating an increase of around 15-20% in 2024-25, according to Rajesh Agrawal, additional secretary at the Department of Commerce. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi recently, Agrawal said the global alcoholic beverages market was valued at $135 billion, while India’s share was only $350 million.

“So, there is a lot of scope and headroom available for India to grow in this sector. We are registering double-digit growth year on year. Last year we saw 20% growth and this year we expect to have a growth of around between 15 and 20 percent,” Agrawal said, PTI reported.

He highlighted that the national industry is preparing to meet the growing global demand. Meanwhile, Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal added that India is actively promoting the export of value-added products in both the food and marine sectors, with the aim of reaching $1 billion in these exports in the next few years. years. Exports for the period 2023-24 reached $389 million.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) earlier stated that India ranks 40th globally in exports of alcoholic beverages, with key markets including the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Countries Netherlands, Tanzania, Angola, Kenya and Rwanda.

To boost these exports, the government is taking proactive measures by encouraging industry participation in global trade fairs and seeking better access to overseas markets.
