Jyotiraditya M Scindia says India will roll out its own 4G network by mid-2025

Indian Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Wednesday announced that India’s 4G technology will be rolled out by mid-2025, outlining three key goals for the country and the government. Scindia, the Communications Minister, was delivering a keynote address at the 51st edition of the AIMA National Management Convention.

“India, for the first time in its existence, has developed its own 4G technology, which will be launched by the middle of next year,” he said. It is important not only to implement the technology but also to design and develop indigenous technology, Scindia added.

“We have set ourselves three objectives. The first is to ensure saturation… Every corner of our country must be digitally connected. Every person must be able to take advantage of all the opportunities offered by the digital revolution,” he said.

India has built nearly 400,000 towers across the country, he said, adding that the government has committed to build nearly 20,000 more towers and Rs 44,000 crore for the initiative. “By mid-FY25, we will have committed and completed 100 per cent saturation in our country,” he said.

The second objective is the drive for Make in India, and the same transformation has to happen in the telecom equipment space, he added.

“The third objective is to ensure that we have future-proof technology in India. It is important that we adopt new technologies, but it is also important that we leverage our own capabilities to produce new technologies,” he said. Scindia also spoke about the Post Office Bill and the new Telecom Bill, and promised a transformative boom.

“I commit to all of you that both departments will enact a very transparent and forward-looking regulatory mechanism by December this year that will enable a new paradigm shift in our industry,” Scindia said.
