Monik Sharma’s checked luggage, containing items worth around Rs 45,000, went missing during his July 19 flight from Calcutta to Guwahati – his compensation was only Rs. 2,450.
“How could it disappear into thin air? Were the bags escaping from the plane?” he asked.
According to the tweet, Sharma has contacted IndiGo regarding his lost luggageBut a month later he received a reply from the airlines, offering him compensation of Rs 2,450.
Handa, while acknowledging the airline’s compensation policy, said it only adds “insult to injury” as the monetary value of the lost belongings far exceeds what Sharma was offered.
It is unknown whether Sharma received further reimbursement for his loss.
Indigo’s Blue Ribbon baggage protection service requires passengers to report lost baggage within four days of the loss.
Frequent travelers joined the online discussion about Sharma’s ordeal and advised people to never check in valuable items.
