IndiGo to soon start flights to tourist hotspots like Langkawi and Penang, says CEO

IndiGo will expand its international offering by adding services to five new overseas destinations, including Langkawi and Penang in Malaysia, the airline said on October 25. The airline plans to introduce business class on more than 40 aircraft on 12 major metropolitan routes by the end. 2025, IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers said during an earnings call, PTI reported.

Flights to Langkawi and Penang, along with three other international routes, are expected to be launched in the coming months, Elbers confirmed. Currently, IndiGo has operations in more than 30 international destinations.

Additionally, the airline said it will introduce business class seats on the Delhi-Mumbai route from next month. By 2025, personalized business class service will be rolled out on 12 metro routes using a fleet of more than 40 aircraft.

Despite facing challenges like grounding of aircraft and rising fuel costs, IndiGo reported a net loss of Rs 986.7 crore for the September quarter.

Meanwhile, in the series of hoax bomb threats received by Indian airlines on domestic and international flights, an Indigo flight from Pune to Jodhpur received a bomb threat via email last week, which was found to be a hoax after an intensive search of the aircraft by authorities.

The airport authority received an email threatening to blow up Indigo flight 6E133, which had taken off from Pune for Jodhpur. About this information, the airport authority informed the airport police station.

Police and CISF officers rushed to the spot and the aircraft was searched at the airport. An explosives disposal team and a dog team also attended the scene.

“The arriving flight had to land in the isolation zone. The passengers’ luggage and every corner of the flight were thoroughly searched, but no explosives were found. After obtaining confirmation after an intensive search, it turned out that it was a false threat. Finally, at 2:05 p.m. the flight was allowed to take off to its next destination,” the official said.

The flight departed from Pune at 11:50 am and landed at Jodhpur airport at 1:19 pm This is the second bomb hoax on this flight in a week. The same flight also received a bomb threat on Sunday.
