The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) team of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela on Saturday organised the Rural School Connect programme at the Upper Primary (UP) School in Dalposh village. It aims to bring about transformation in rural education through UBA activities. This Odia medium school is run by the Odisha government and provides education to students from classes 1 to 8. In which there is also a residential hostel for boys. NIT Rourkela, which acts as the regional coordination centre of UBA, has adopted five villages. Jhirpani, Jamsera, Dalposh, Mitkundri and Kansar (Munda Tola). The initiative on Saturday was a part of the event, where a team from UBA NIT Rourkela, comprising of teachers, staff and students of NIT Rourkela, visited the school. In the programme, 9 television sets equipped with ‘Free to Air D2H Dish TV’ were handed over to the school. The aim of the programme was to provide access to educational and infotainment broadcast channels. It aimed to improve listening, communication and speaking skills through activity-based learning facilitated through educational channels. The programme included lively performances by students of the school which included folk dance, a song and dance from the Swachh Bharat Awareness Campaign. The entire programme was coordinated by the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan-NIT Rourkela team members.

It will promote educational development by sharing resources in rural schools

Chief Guest Professor K Umamaheswara Rao, Director, NIT Rourkela, announced the adoption of the school as part of NIT Rourkela’s broader commitment to share resources and promote educational and developmental development in rural schools. Prof Rao highlighted plans to engage NIT Rourkela students to voluntarily support the school by providing guidance and mentoring. Special Guest P Neeraja (Director, KV NITR) emphasised the importance of utilising the PM e-Vidya initiative to access digital and multi-modal education. He invited the Dalposh students to visit KV NIT Rourkela and encouraged future collaborative programmes to promote educational development. Special Guest Prof Rohan Dhiman (Registrar, NITR) invited the students and faculty of the school to explore the laboratories at NIT Rourkela and thanked the UBA-NITR team for their commitment towards the upliftment of the adopted village schools.

Emphasis on solving water and transportation challenges in villages

Special Guest Professor RK Patel from NIT Rourkela addressed the village water and transport challenges and advocated practical solutions. Participating in the programme, Bedana Oram (Sarpanch, Jamsera Gram Panchayat) and Dhruba Raut (Principal, UP School, Dalposh) expressed their gratitude to the UBA team and NIT Rourkela for their support and cooperation. With around 200 participants, the event concluded with a shared objective of collaboration between higher education institutions and rural communities to address development challenges and accelerate sustainable development. The UBA NITR team included Professor Brajgopal Mishra (Chairman), Professor Ramakrishna Biswal (Nodal Officer) and respected members Professor Sujit Sen, Professor Sheshdev Pradhan, Professor Kakoli K Paul, Professor Sandhyarani Biswas, Rajesh Beuria, Prem Kumar Jess and Banita Mahali.
