Jalal Yunus has resigned as the head of the Bangladesh Cricket Board and chairman of the cricket operations committee. The former fast bowler has tendered his resignation after the National Sports Council asked him to do so.

“I have resigned for the sake of cricket,” Jalal was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. “I am all for cricket to function properly and correctly. I agree with his intention to replace me as per the constitution. I do not want to be a hindrance to the progress of cricket,” he added.

However, the other NSC-appointed director, Ahmed Sajjadul Alam, rejected the board’s request to step down. “I told them that since they had nominated me as an NSC councillor and I later became a director, they had to do so. They can inform me of their decision regarding me,” he told ESPNcricinfo.

Jalal is the first director to resign from the current board. The board has been under scrutiny following the change in government following the student protests, which led to the resignation of the Awami League government a fortnight ago.

Notably, a report in Cricbuzz claims that changes are likely to take place in the board as BCB chairman Nazmul Hasan has also expressed his desire to step down.

Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud visited the BCB headquarters and met with officials, staff members and cricketers. He also met former captain Tamim Iqbal.

“You have seen that our youth and sports advisor visited the BCB office today. He checked out the board premises and seems to have plans to visit other federations in the coming days,” BCB chief Nizamuddin Chowdhury said at the meeting.

“There was no specific discussion with anyone. The advisor spoke to several people at BCB who shared their experiences,” he added.

Meanwhile, the BCB chief is confident that Bangladesh will be able to host the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup despite the political instability in the country. “We are fully confident in our preparations to host the Women’s T20 World Cup as planned. The government has been proactive and has reached out to us on its first day in office.

“The Bangladesh Army has also assured us that they will fully support and cooperate with us. We have informed the ICC and they are satisfied with our preparations,” Nizamuddin said.
