Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections 2024: Union Home Minister Amit Shah to release BJP manifesto today | India News

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to release the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) manifesto ‘Sankalp Patra’ today, marking a major step in the party’s preparations for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. Shah, who is on a two-day visit to the region, will release the manifesto in Jammu at 3.30 pm, accompanied by top BJP leaders.

Visit of Amit Shah

Amit Shah’s visit is of strategic importance for the BJP, especially at a time when the party is gearing up for one of its most crucial assembly elections. Jammu and Kashmir has presented several challenges for the BJP, including internal protests and defections following denial of candidatures. Shah’s presence is aimed at consolidating the party’s position and drumming up support among party workers and leaders.

Meetings of party workers

Later, the Union Home Minister is expected to meet party functionaries and workers, to address concerns and discuss campaign strategies. His interactions with various delegations of party workers will play a key role in defining the BJP’s outreach strategy ahead of the elections.
BJP’s strategic approach in Jammu district

The BJP sees Jammu district, which has 11 constituencies, as a crucial battleground. In the 2014 assembly elections, the party won nine of these seats, contributing significantly to its overall tally of 25 seats. The party is aiming to repeat or better this performance in the upcoming elections.
Security is reinforced for the Shah’s visit

In preparation for Shah’s visit, security arrangements have been significantly beefed up in Jammu. Multi-layered security measures have been put in place, particularly at two key locations – the BJP press centre located in a hotel in the Channi area and the rally venue where Shah will officially launch the party’s campaign on Saturday.
BJP candidate announcements

The BJP has already announced its candidates for 51 of the 90 Assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir. The party recently revealed a list of four candidates, consolidating its preparations for the polls, which are scheduled to begin on September 18. The elections will be held in three phases, with subsequent polling days on September 25 and October 1. The Election Commission of India will declare the final results on October 8.

The campaign will gain momentum with Modi’s participation

The BJP’s election campaign is expected to gather pace further as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders are set to address multiple rallies across the Union Territory. These efforts are part of the party’s larger strategy to ensure a strong presence in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly.

By publishing the manifesto and launching the election campaign, the BJP hopes to secure a majority in a politically complex and strategically important region.
