Jammu and Kashmir: One terrorist killed in Sopore after attack on police check post

New Delhi: A gunfight between terrorists and security forces broke out in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. A gunfight broke out in Rafiabad area of ​​Sopore. Security forces, including Sopore police and 32 Rashtriya Rifles Regiment (32RR), engaged terrorists who had attacked a police check post at Watergam in Rafiabad.

During the encounter, one terrorist was killed in a joint operation by Sopore police and 32RR. Another terrorist is reported to be trapped and the exchange of fire is continuing as security personnel continue to try to arrest the remaining assailants.

“An exchange of fire took place in Watergam area of ​​Sopore. Security forces responded,” the Kashmir area police said in a message posted on X.

Kashmir police confirmed that the incident occurred in Watergam area. Security forces responded quickly and cordoned off the area to prevent any escape. A search operation is currently underway.

However, official sources indicated that a person was seen lying near the scene of the shooting.
