Jamshedpur News: PM Modi to give gift of inclusion of Kudmi community in ST list on arrival in Jamshedpur: Harmohan Mahato

Jamshedpur News: The country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Kolhan land on September 15. The Kudmi community is happy about his arrival – they welcome and congratulate him wholeheartedly. But this happiness would have remained forever on the faces of the Kudmi community, had they been given their constitutional identity. The Kudmi community has long been demanding to be included in the ST list and for the Sarna religion to be recognised. But their demands have not been met yet. The Kudmi community is urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce the inclusion of the Kudmi community in the ST list and to give a separate religious code to the tribals on his arrival in the iron city of Jamshedpur. Jharkhand firebrand and Kudmi leader Harmohan Mahato issued a press statement on Thursday. He said that there is a sizeable population of the Kudmi community in many districts of Bengal and Odisha, including Jharkhand. They speak only in their mother tongue, Kudmali. Therefore, Kudmali, the mother tongue of the Kudmi community, should also be immediately included in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Also announce the conduct of a caste-based census in Jharkhand at the earliest.

Teka Railway Movement was carried out in three states

He said that the Rail Teka movement was jointly organised by the Kudmi community on 25th September 2023 in the states of Jharkhand, Bengal and Odisha. After the movement, the then Tribal Minister in the Government of India, Arjun Munda, issued a statement saying that the Government of India has no demand for inclusion of the Kudmis in the Scheduled Tribes under consideration. On 23rd November 2004, in his capacity as the then Chief Minister, Arjun Munda had sent the recommendation to the Government of India for inclusion of Kudmi in the Scheduled Tribe category.

The demand letter was filed based on the TRI report.

In the year 2015, the then Chief Minister Raghuvar Das had rejected the demand for inclusion of the Kudmi caste in the Scheduled Tribe based on the report of the Tribal Research Institute. In 2023, a delegation from the Kudmi community including Sheetal Ohdar, Harmohan Mahato, Dani Singh Mahato, Sapan Mahato and Thaneshwar Mahato submitted a memorandum to BJP National President JP Nadda and Jharkhand State President Babulal Marandi. But till date the Government of India has not taken any appropriate decision in the interest of the Kudmi.
