jasprit bumrahBumrah’s inclusion in the Indian squad for the first Test against Bangladesh has surprised fans and pundits alike. Despite the BCCI’s stance that Bumrah should be rested to ensure his fitness for the upcoming Australian tour, the pacer was selected for the Bangladesh series.

According to a PTI report, a BCCI source said the decision to include Bumrah rested with the bowler himself. “In Bumrah’s case, he knows his body best and it will be up to him if he wants to play in the Tests against Bangladesh,” the source said. The team management and selectors were reportedly keen on preserving Bumrah’s fitness for the crucial Australian tour, where India will play five Tests.

The decision to include Bumrah in the Bangladesh series has sparked a contentious debate. Some are concerned that the move could pose a risk to his overall fitness in the long run. On the other hand, there are those who argue that Bumrah’s participation could offer a vital injection of strength to India’s bowling line-up.

The decision to add Bumrah to the Indian squad for the first Test match against Bangladesh came as a surprise as the initial plans had called for him to be rested. However, the team’s recent struggles have prompted the management to reconsider the decision, especially after the Indian bowling attack, without Bumrah, failed to put up a consistent performance against Sri Lanka.

With the upcoming series against Bangladesh to be played at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium, a venue known for its spin-friendly pitches, India’s decision to field a four-pronged pace attack, including Bumrah, Siraj, Akash Deep and Yash Dayal, was seen as a strategic move.

Bumrah’s absence against Sri Lanka was keenly felt as India’s bowlers found it difficult to finish off their opponents despite putting them under pressure. The team management and selectors believed that Bumrah’s presence was crucial to bolster the bowling attack and give India a better chance of success against Bangladesh.
