jasprit bumrah Bumrah is reportedly expected to miss India’s upcoming Test series against Bangladesh as the management looks to give the star fast bowler an extended break. Bumrah has not played cricket since India’s triumph in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup on June 29 and is likely to return to competitive cricket against New Zealand in October.

According to a PTI report, the management is looking to keep Bumrah fresh and injury-free for the Test matches against New Zealand and Australia. India will play two Test matches against Bangladesh starting from September 19 and host New Zealand in a three-match Test series in October-November before travelling to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy starting from November 22.

If Bumrah is left out again, the BCCI Selection Committee is considering calling up Arshdeep Singh or Khaleel AhmedBoth left-arm spinners have recently cemented their places in the white-ball teams but are yet to make their Test debuts.

“In Bumrah’s case, he knows his body best and it will be up to him if he wants to play in the Tests against Bangladesh,” the BCCI source told PTI. “The team management and selectors are very clear that India needs Jasprit Bumrah to be 120 per cent fit for the five Tests against Australia Down Under. Before that, there is New Zealand in India where he will probably play and prepare for the tougher Tests.”

Yash Dayal is also in contention for a call-up, but both Arshdeep and Khaleel are leading the battle for Bumrah’s place, according to the same report. Both Mohamed Shami Mohammed Siraj is expected to return to the red-ball cricket team for the Bangladesh series.

India will begin their series against Bangladesh with two Test matches (in Chennai from September 19 and in Kanpur from September 27), followed by three T20Is starting from October 6.
