Jemimah Rodrigues is doing this to help India mount a challenge for the Women’s T20 World Cup

Indian batsman Jemimah Rodrigues hopes her debut in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) will help her overcome the pressures of the upcoming T20 World Cup. Rodrigues will play for the Trinbago Knight Riders in the WCPL and they will face defending champions Barbados Royals in their opening match on Friday.

“First of all, just go out and play cricket, because that’s how I see it ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup (2024). I think these are the matches I’m actually going to play, as the break will be all my preparation,” Rodrigues said in an interaction organised by Fancode.

“The more you face that situation and those moments of pressure, I think that is the best preparation you can have. That is why, for me, I see it (the WCPL) more as a preparation for the T20 World Cup,” he added.

Rodrigues reiterated that she will get some comebacks that could help her shape her batting approach in the upcoming World Cup, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) next month.

“I’m really looking forward to… some of the things I’m working on in the networks and I’m trying to implement them here.

“Because when you do it in training, it’s different. But when you do it in a game, it’s very different.” Rodrigues, however, has one immediate goal ahead of him: helping the Knight Riders win the WCPL title.

“At the same time, I have an added responsibility when playing for TKR: to do everything I can to ensure my team wins in the end,” he added.

Rodrigues has played 100 T20Is for India, scoring 2074 runs at an average of 30.50 and a strike rate of 114.26. She has hit 11 half-centuries in the shortest international format and will be one of the key batsmen in the Indian line-up for the upcoming World Cup.
