The fisherman reported the sighting to the Jharkhand Forest Department and local police, who responded to the spot along with Intelligence Bureau (IB) officers.
Authorities discovered that the radio collar and ID tag were accompanied by a note that read: “If found, please contact [email protected]…”
While the investigation continues, with the bird currently under medical observation, authorities have ruled out any “foul play.” Concerns that the vulture sighting in India had links to civil unrest in Bangladesh They have also been fired.
Although white-backed vultures are not migratory birds, they are known to travel long distances in search of food. These birds are scavengers and eat carrion, which helps prevent dangerous bacteria and viruses from growing on decaying carcasses.
The white-backed vulture is monogamous and breeds once a year during the dry season.
Native to Africa, this raptor prefers open savannas and plains, where it can breed in dispersed colonies in tall trees.
The white-backed vulture population declined catastrophically from the mid-1990s onwards due to the use of the veterinary drug diclofenac in the treatment of livestock.
